First Steps
It could happen to you!
Be Prepared!
Outdoor survival experts teach that the first
step in surviving is knowing that “it could happen to you” – so be
prepared in case it does. Then follow a few “survival basics” to give
yourself the best chance of turning a bad situation into something
better.
If you lose your job during these tough
economic times, there are five “basics” that you need to follow.
1st – Don’t Panic! Pray!
God is still in control. He made a promise
that you need to believe now more than ever: He will never leave or
forsake you. He is as close as your prayers to Him.
2nd – Don’t Pull Away
Though you may feel like it, now is not the
time to isolate. We were made for community; we’re better together! You
need the fellowship of other believers now more than ever.
3rd – Take Inventory of What
You Have
Your focus must not be on what you’ve lost
but what you have. God has placed in your life everything that you need
to make it through a tough time: family, friends, certain skills, etc.
And don’t forget – His power and provision.
4th – Make a New Plan
Now it’s time for a “tighten your belt”
attitude. This is not the time to do your “honey-do” list. You already
have a new job – it’s creating a new budget to live on and then finding
a new job. Use the resources available to you.
5th – Get Help When It’s
Available
In the past, you’ve been the one who helped
others; God wants to return the favor. There are resources and helps
available to you. Don’t let your pride get in the way. Learning to
receive help makes you better at giving it.
